Hi everyone,

I have managed to loose both my HISS keys. I can't believe how much of an idiot I was not make a copy when I noticed my backup went missing. Anyway...here I am. Honda told me it will cost £1000 to replace the whole ignition system. Is there any way around this? I am sure I am pretty screwed tbh but thought I'd ask the nest...who knows...

Thanks.

Have you not got the red key that should have come with the bike, the master one?

Hi Joe,

Red key? Never seen one. I bought the bike from Honda Doble. All they gave me is two spare keys... Don't even know what this red key it looks like. What does it do?

It's a 2008 model...if it helps.

As far as I know there is no red key on the 2007 onwards bikes. I bought my 2010 from a dealer and I received two black keys and a little tiny plate with a number stamped. IF you can find that number you MIGHT be in luck from what I understand, but then again you might need a psychical key also. Thankfully I've never found out first hand. Good luck!

Bummer, bummer, bummer!

Should you never find either of those keys there are essentially 2 ways around.

You will need a new ignition switch. That switch will come with 2 new keys. You will also need new fuel tank cap as well as a new key latch for the seat.

Bummer, bummer, bummer!

1) Either you can send your ECU back to Honda and have them "zap" it, ie the first key will be "master", or one of the new keys will be required to "program" the original ECU. (You still need fuel cap and seat lock with new keys)

2) Purchase a new ECU that is "blank" and the first key used is a "master".

Bummer, bummer, bummer!

I have 4 keys for all my blades.

I think the "numbers" mentioned earlier are for the key configuration (the ridges cut along the key blade) so if you can get that number you might not need a new ignition/fuel cap/seat lock... but the ECU will need reseting for a new RFID on new key(s)

Bummer, bummer, bummer! :Bang :Bang :Bang

What the fcuk is a "red key"?

I dot know who the people are at the link below but it might be worth finding out.

http://www.ecu-master.co.uk/shop/articl ... aid%3D2%26

Like I said, I don't know who these people are. They could be cowboy jokers or they could be Angels sent from heaven to watch over all motorcycle riders. Worth investigati g.

Just googled "ECU Mastec" came across this:-

Absolutely... mind you will probably have to supply DVLA docs to verify your ownership of the bike (?). For 250quid... a steal in comparison.

+ 1 - I have a second key with this plate # on - I believe this is the master needed to have another key programmed ( which requires bike and key being left with dealer ) - ebay occasionally has ECU and matching keys for a couple of hundred or so quid - might be worth checking breakers - have been told ECU and matching keys is only solution as this is another purpose of HISS ( ie. makes it uneconomical to nick...) ..the re-programmers listed seem pretty legit (one's in London and lets you drop off for same day job) - handy to know - hope you get it sorted

Hi all,

I went the breakers way. Very lucky indeed, I just finished the conversation with Honda to go ahead and change everything and received a call from breakers. Bought the whole system for £350. The guy said it is everything I need in order to start the bike. Honda quoted £1000 so I think I had a result. Problem now is see if I can fit it.

Thank you all for the advice.

I called the ecu master company. Unfortunately I already bought the complete system but really recommend them. Spoke to this guy and apparently all I need to do is remove the top yoke because the HISS is stuck to it, remove the ECU, send him both and he sends them back next day with two keys all for £250. Brilliant!

Just thought I'd share with everyone.
