Hi everyone, I've just registered here. I've been here lurking and looking up tips since before I owned my bike.

I'm riding a black '06 hornet around Manchester and the surrounding areas. It's such a shame to see that most of the topics on this board haven't had a new post in them for the last couple of years and I hope to see more activity despite our beloved Hornet being sidelined a long way back. That new CB650 Neo Sport Cafe looks pretty tasty though, but still I love my Hornet and probably wouldn't swap.

Hi mate - yeah - I guess interest in the Hornet peaked about a decade ago - it's just us die hards carrying the flame now.

It's probably because back when the 600 Hornet came out in 98 it was the best performing, most fun and most stylish 600 doing the donor sportsbike engine in a street chassis thing on the market - so got a lot of interest and attention - since then the Hornet formula has been successfully reproduced by rival bike companies (stuff like the Kawasaki Z750 and the Yamaha MT bikes) so the Hornet has been edged out of the spotlight somewhat.

But it's still a fantastic bike which is why I've hung onto mine.

I know if I had more garage space, and mine was the slightly newer version (larger front wheel) then I'd have been tempted to keep mine, as a winter hack if nothing else.

But as it stands now I don't have a hornet.... but I'm still on here posting, but then I am a bit simple... :p

This post prompted me to register. Like the OP I've been lurking around here for a while. Passed mod 2 via direct access just over a month ago and have been enjoying riding my blue 06 hornet around Somerset basically every day since.

A lot of the modern bikes don't really do it for my aesthetically... the hornet though, absolutely loving it. Anyone here from the north Somerset area?

Cheers, Dan

Hi Dan

I'm just over the other side in Chard.

Are you on the South West Bikers forum?
http://www.southwestbikers.com

If not then get on over there and say hi, there's lots of organised ride outs going on or just pub meets. There are a few members over your way on there.
There's a ride happening on Sunday actually which is spanning Exmoor & Dartmoor. I'm supposed to be going but I'm not sure if a Saturday afternoon thing is going to turn into a drunken evening thing... in which case I'll likely be staying in bed on Sunday. :angel

Thanks both.

knee_jerk, thanks for the tip off. I'll definitely go over and say hi within the next couple of days. To be perfectly honest I've promised myself to keep away from group rides for the immediate future. Figure I should spend a little more time riding solo so I can find my comfort threshold (been on 2 wheels less than a year). Will definitely join the party soon enough though.

Cheers,
Dan

Long time lurker too. Have used these boards to help do repairs and ask the odd question. Haven't been on in a few years tho. Bit sad the hornets are dwindling. Mine is 03. Keep thinking about changing. Would love to keep her alongside mayb a cruiser. Keep her for the Twisties something I won't kill myself on!
I'm from n. Ireland. Only time I really see another hornet now is being used by a learner school. I take it there's never any more swarms? Wouldve been awesome to see all those hooners together haha. Anyway if anyone's stil about say hi

Thanks Steve. Good to know you're still about. You answered a few of my questions years ago I noticed. Just been browsing my old posts!!

You still got the hornet I take it?

So is there never any more ride outs?
