I was born 9 years too late to catch the last use of nuclear weapons in a war. So it's quite interesting to think that I might get to witness their next use some time soon. Amusing letter on DT motoring pages a few weeks back, Kia owner worrying about where he'd get spare parts for his car, if this happened.

But seriously, what can be done ? Sanctions don't seem to work. Is it right to allow Kims programme to continue until the point at which they have a reliable nuclear tipped ICBM ? Plenty of other nations already possess these, so does it actually raise the mutually assured destruction ante ?

Personally, I'd love to see the US bomb or missile strike the crap out of North Korea, using conventional explosives, but would that stop them, and would their communists sponsors stand by while this happened ?

And then we see those stupid military parades with the goose stepping militia. Surely one of that multitude might actually have some bullets in his / her AK knockoff, and get within range of Kim ?

But then, it never happened to Hitler either ..

Military intervention in the middle east doesn't seem to have worked.
Yes, North Korea has a different story to the middle east but Military solutions don't seem to work.

Yes, they sound good and would produce results but might not produce the results we want.

The key here is China - China maintains NK as a buffer state against the highly militarised US ally SK - a unified Korea could become a serious economic and strategic rival with China for regional leadership so China would prefer to maintain the current politica/strategic status quo - however there must be a tipping point where North Korea goes from being a useful (if somewaht troublesome) buffer state to a real and serious threat to regional peace - at this point the Chinese might decide that regime change in NK is a better option than a potentially catastrophic war between NK and SK and it's US ally - perhaps a US President as unpredictable and unstable as Trump (appears to be) represents the tipping point that will force China's hand?

The Chinese have already warned NK that if it attacks SK or the US first it will not intervene on NK's behalf.

The North Korean regime has always used these threatening tactics to gain political and economic concessions - their only concern is to ensure the survival of the regime - the last thing they want is an actual war - if Trump calls their bluff this might reveal the regime to be a paper tiger and trigger it's collapse (with Chinese help).

But much more important than any of this is the fact that my Hornet is currently 40% Chinese - with more Chinese pattern parts and accessories currently in the post - a serious regional conflict involving China could sabotage my build! :(

I was wondering when this one going to appear Richard :)

I predict a nice lonnnnnnnnnnnnng juicy thread coming :angel

Personally , i think Trump is handling this all well, " fire anf fury " is the only type of language that nut jobs NK understands, maybe not the greatest words of the most powerful man on the planet , but nonetheless words that have been bought on by KN continued ignorance ,disregard and threats to the worlds peace and safety.

Isn't that the point, he's acting like a loose cannon to keep the other guys on the back foot. Playing Kim at his own game, while in the background the diplomatic process continues.

Is there much of this?
A lot of effort seems to be going into all the internal politics such as the fighting the media, the russia probe etc..
