lets talk about Headlights, bulb options etc...

recently i am have a trouble with my HID Kit, it goes off randomly right after i turn of my engine(lets say in a fuel station) when i turn on HID doesn't work, every morning it works... but goes off after 40mins... but not when i ride. sometimes it works all day
by mistake i posted this issue in 600 forum but didn't get a solution :(

anyway i have switched back to halogen till i get HID problem solved.
i have a question do you think using 12v 100/90w cause any problem? or should i stick to 55/60w halogen

however i really need something just like HID but i don't want blind others... but when they don't switch to low on the road i want something to blind them off just like my HID :finger

Any Advice appreciated :)

I think I got the same H4 hi/lo HID bulb, but in 4300K. I just don't like the blueish colour of 6500K and higher, and 4300K is supposed to give the most light on the street. And another thing... as aftermarket HID lights are illegal in Taiwan as in many other places, with a light looking more like the original, the police won't pull you out immediately! :copper

NO NO NO!!!!!!
here it's different, most of grand vehicles, you know imported stuff... driven by ministers and all get the priority :lol
whenever Police see something with HIDs they never i mean NEVER stop those vehicles.. that's the secret here
i had enough time with Yellow color bulbs so this new Purple color is kind of cool and even people find it different.. they are like "ohMy, that light makes me horny, i wanna look at it again" so they keep staring at it lol :o

I think this has to do with the power surge when the HID is fired up initially. While the engine is not running the system voltage is lower, sometimes too low to ignite the HID correctly. If you did not change the wiring, the headlight comes on with ignition key on. I'd suggest to cut the headlight's power wire and put a small manual switch in. Then turn on the switch once the engine is running. You could also use a small relay instead, which gets power only when the engine is running. I installed this on my bike some time ago, but changed it to a manual switch, since I have an additional permanently on LED light now. HID only needed when it's dark.

oh yeah manual switch always works BUT... here these horny bikes got their own identification
on-light bike with two parking/signal lights on <-- people say "Hornet is comming" :love i know it's funny but most of them think that way. believe me i asked my mechanic to install a switch for rear, headlight and two parking light/including lights in dash but he said NO!!
but i think sometimes darn he was right.. it is special keeping them on lol

@Vimukthi
it's your ballast, change it and you won't get any problem again, trust me now i have become a pro about HIDs lol
don't mess with the ignition switch ON and OFF... just change your ballast and when you install it, try to hide it don't let water on it

you sure you have a HID ... or is it Halogen?
HID kits come with a ballast... like this

people sell HID kits normally have extra ballasts, cost would be 2000LKR

From my experience I would say that you'll probably don't need a new ballast. Your battery voltage might just be a bit on the low side. As long as the light does ignite (at least sometimes), the ballast should be OK.
I had a similar experience on my scooter. The HID was working fine for a year or so. Then more and more often I had a hard time to turn it on, especially in idle. I too thought the HID ballast might have a problem. But luckily I didn't bother with an expensive replacement back then. When I changed the scooter's battery some time later, the HID worked again perfectly!
So, go for the relay or a manual switch. If that "cheap fix" doesn't help, you still can buy a new ballast later... :angel

sometimes i put halogen back in just for a change
then i notice it sucks more power than HID system, when halogen is on(engine isn't runinng) i noticed my LED turn lights dim rather they with HID

even HID gives more light than any halogen i bet. :ahhdiddums

Sorry for posting in an old topic!
My hornet has double headlights, looks like streetfighter.
I have 2xH4 55/60W I find the light poor. I'm thinking of 2xHids 35W 4300K but I'm worried about the place of installing ballasts.
Can anyone with HID post a pic where have you got your Ballast hidden?
Thanks! :angel

there are two rubber knobs both side of the chassis, they are used to hold the fuel tank(close to handle bar center bolt) i have hidden my ballast underneath that one of knobs.. enough space. chassis has two holes so you can use a bracket to hold a ballast perhaps extra wire-tie like i have in mine :love

Did you just put the HID bulb into the standard headlight or did you retrofit proper projectors in there? I'm interested in upgrading my headlight but I'm not quite sure if its suitable for a HID conversion.

that is how mine look like, very simple
there are two wire with no sockets, they should be connected to your headlight socket with 3 pins, they are for hi/low beams that's it
red and black connect to battery...

yes just put in to your headlight cup... :angel

How is the light spread with that set up? I've seen pictures of HIDs in normal headlights and the light is all over the place.
