1st clean those cables,

* disconnect them from levers and other ends
* pour some kerosene or gasoline in to cables
* then use some thick engine oil, 20w50 or 40w.. (i use new engine oil)

i am sure grease won't go all the way to the end of the cable that's why you should use oil

iF your cables are teflon lined then No you dont need to lube them.
Cables from Venhill eng who make after market cable here in the Uk are teflon lined and you can litteraly tie them in a not and they work perfectly. We have used them for several years racing and no problems. Oldgit
