I bought an ABBA stand myself. Allows me to work on both the front and the back of the bike using only one stand. Also shock servicing can be done, which wouldn't be possible using a regular paddock stand. Although I don't have experience with regular paddock stands I can imagine that they might be a bit easier to use than the ABBA stand.

That being said you can buy paddock stands without bobbins. If you do want to go with a bobbin one, I think you will need to drill two small holes in the swingarm to fit them as the hornet doesn't have the holes stock.

There are some topics about this, search will help.

Just get two universal ones, I use them for my '98 hornet no problem

You don't need to drill holes for them as they just essentially cup the bottom of the swingarm to lift it

Here is a pic of mine on its universals
(I got it off ebay for a fiver)

Whilst the paddock stands are a good solution, a more expensive, yet better solution is to install a center stand. The advantage of a center stand is that it requires no garage storage and it is inherently portable. Both front and rear can be worked on at same time.

Best

i too have universal stands but found the rear awkward to fit so when in position mark the steel tube and drill and fit a washer and split pin. the stand will fit under the swing arms without any hassle.

Get a ABBA stand ;) i think its bit safer then your traditional paddock stand and you can basically take the bike right apart on it

definitely an abba stand - I've got an abba and paddock stand, and even though the paddock stand is more convenient, I always use the abba because it is so much more secure.

Yes I am one of the Abba stand fans too. More expensive but worth every penny imo... I never felt safe getting the rear paddock stand on but that was probably me!

do you have to get a abba stand specific for a hornet (different years etc) and any attachments?

Yes - the abba stand needs attachments to fit different bikes: But that should be clearly listed, along with the model year.
