My thoughts exactly. There really are some w*nkers out there, spoils it for the rest of us.

Yep - I remember reading (so it must be true) about a bike shop owner who part-exed a bike to a customer in exchange for one of the shop's used bikes - the customer's part exed bike appeared to be ok and the engine sounded ok, seemed to be exhibiting decent compression etc - it was only after the customer cleared off with his new bike that the shop discovered, upon a more detailed examination of the part-exed bike, that the engine was in a seriously bad way and that one of the bikes pistons had an old tennis ball stretched over it to make fake compression!

as the front end was off the GS, it would be rude not to borrow the front wheel to aid with stance progression

ended up with seat at almost the same height as the GS, swing arm is also almost the same angle from the horizontal.

think i will go with this set up as i am happy with it as a start point .

couldnt find a seat latch to fit the EFE, so went looking for anything that looked close! came across the one from a GSX600F, found one for the exorbitant "buy it now" price of £4,

couldnt go wrong with that, so got it

it has just arrived, got it fitted and it is a perfect fit, will need to sort some sort of lever to fit on the inside of the grab rail to opperate it, but happy with it all the same.

have also been looking for the pillion seat loop, no luck with that! so i am going to make one, had a look at the mounting point and dont think it will take much to get one sorted    :)

i came across some Autoglym rubber and vinyl cleaner, gave it a try and am well pleased with the end result   :)

build is now going on hold for spendings!! i will carry on with the frame work for now, so bracing and rear suspension mounts will be getting sorted, coz they need to be done and i know what i want with them.

the build wish list is about to change, i should soon inherit a cut of my mums Estate, so i will be altering the wish list to quality parts in account of the new spending power coming my way.

Now i have a good idea of what funds i have coming to me and because it is going to be a once in a life time opportunity for me to be able to have a build start with the best bits from the start, and not have to add them on, as and when i have the funds, i am going to aim at

1) Racefit full system and twin fuel filler
2) Ohlins suspension front and back
3) Brembo full fitment
4) Motogadget full fitment
5) Red6 yokes and Engine cases
6) seats by Lucky7
7) Yoshi TMR 40 MJN's
8) flash wheels
9) lots of Ti

Blimey! Sounds like a candidate for a magazine feature for sure.

as with all things i do, plans will change along the way during the build process!
I have given it a good bit of thought, and have come to the desision in my head that it will
need to be twin rear shock.
So i am going to need to look into what/where/how i am going to need to do changes to things.
on first quick check, it looks like it should be a fairly straight forward job of installing the shocks, might
have to use the same as i have fitted to the GS, Then i can use them for set up and measuring purposes.

Definitely twin shocks.

How about some wire wheels as well ? Here's a GSX1100 with a Bandit 12 engine, wheels are from a KTM 990. Bandit monoshock swingarm modded to twin shocks. R1 front end.

Couldn't find this on the internet, so photo taken on my phone, from November 2017 Classic Bike magazine, builder named Tony Keele.

I know its just OTT to even think about it, but there is nothing wrong with the odd day dream, Right?
so with that in mind, and with the "you only live once" mind set i wonder if i could get some of these to fit in with the build plans?

last night whilst dicking about with the motor that is going into this build, i noticed that it had been damaged FFS!!! one of the lower engine mounting holes

and its casting on the sump have been snapped off.

looks like the nice clean, low mileage engine has been in a shunt, have had a look at the area around the snapped casting, think i might be able to get away with carefully removing the damaged bit of case, leveling the area, and getting a bracket made that will bolt through what is going to be left of the mount.

time will tell  :Pray

Nice video here on aluminium engine mount repair from a geordie bloke with a very well equipped workshop - might be useful (although I expect you are totally familiar with this technique already). :D
