hi guys,

I have been searching for answers, but it seems not many people know about this bike that much.

I have a 2012 cbf600sa ( basically a fuel injected 600 hornet?) and want to change the rear sprocket to achieve better highway RPMs. the stock setup is 16/42. I was thinking of going to a 39 or a 38 on the rear.

with the 42 on the rear the bike currently has a 2.63:1 final drive ratio. with a 39 on the rear it would have a 2.44:1 final drive ratio for a 7.7% decrease in engine speed. If i went with a 38 on the rear it would be a 2.38:1 for a 10.5% decrease in engine speed. right now im about 4500 RPM @ 60mph. with the 38 on the rear it would bring that down to 4k rpm.

is there a final drive ratio that i shouldn't go below on these bikes? i dont want it to be a complete dog but im ok with a trade-off.

Or should i just ride the damn thing?

anyone with experience changing ratios on these bikes out there?

Most go the other way (as did i - could never go back) so if you don't get many replies have a read of might be be useful.

Don't forget your speedo will be thrown out when messing with gearing.

Difficult to understand why you would want to raise the gearing on one of these bikes. Unlikely to improve the fuel consumption, if that is what you are after, it'll just make the bike unpleasant to ride.
